The impact of this pandemic has changed the course of education over the last few months to uncharted territory. There are many questions going through both parents and educators’ minds. Has my child and/or student been able to maintain their skill level with distance learning and will they return to school being able to meet with success? Will they lose the gains they have made throughout the school year? What can I do as a parent to avoid summer lag and maintain current reading levels? As an elementary school teacher for 25 years, I have seen many different reading trends throughout my years in education. One of the key components to reading readiness and the acquisition of early reading skills is having a strong phonetic base. There are many different programs available both within larger frameworks as well as individual structures to help students learn to read. One of the programs that has stood the test of time with reliability and success is Hooked on Phonics. Hooked on Phonics is a primary based program for grades pre-K through grade 2.
Hooked on Phonics, with their step-by-step approach, makes learning to read easy and fun for children and supports standards across America. May 27, 2020Oh, I’m gonna check it out! My kids love books, so I think this is a great tool. I also like that it’s targeting kids from pre-k to grade 2. My kids are exactly in this age range 🙂

May 27, 2020I am so glad this is still around! It helped my daughter so much when she was young. It’s even more necessary now when so many parents have become teachers by necessity and are lost as to how to do it right.
