For as long as I can remember, for at least several years, I have been a huge fan of coupon and cash back offers apps. Ibotta, Checkout 51, Fetch Rewards and Saving Star are just a few of my favorites. However, if you are a Saving Star user you know that recently they were changed to coupons.com. Typically, I do not like change. I get used to what I get used to. If I like how things run and it works for me I like it to stay that way. So I was skeptical when I heard about the changes. Although I have liked coupons.com as a coupon source I wasn’t sure as an app if it would be as promising.
Here were my initial thoughts. I was happy to see that they were going to allow members who had not received the $20 threshold on Saving Star an opportunity to cash out. However, to qualify for that I now had to download the coupon.com app and activate at least one offer. You also had to link your PayPal account to coupons.com. I feel like that was a win-win for coupons.com. If they have members downloading their product and adding offers they were growing without much effort on their part. If people chose not to download and add in that information, they were going to remain in possession of their earnings.
After having the app for a few weeks here is my review. Overall, I do like the coupons.com app! Some of the changes they have implemented I really think are improvements to the consumer. With Saving Star, as mentioned before, you had to reach a $20 threshold in order to cash out. The coupons.com app does not have a minimum that you need to meet. Once they have verified that you have met the criteria for the offer they immediately deposit your earnings into your PayPal account. Therefore I am receiving a dollar or two each time I’m submitting rather than waiting until I hit that $20 amount. That $20 mark could be a nuisance. In the case of my parents who are older and do not shop a lot it took them a year to reach the $20 threshold. Therefore, I do like this new way that the coupons.com app is settling up.
Also with Saving Star you were required to upload your store discount card number if the store had one. This was not an option, it was required. If the store offered a savings card you had to upload your card number to receive any sort of cash back. The only way you were able to submit a receipt is if the store did not have a discount card like Target or Walmart. The coupons.com app allows you to load your store discount card if you choose OR upload your receipt.
Also, Saving Star limited the stores you can shop at. Although there were many options I think the coupons.com app options are actually more. This gives you more opportunities to save money since you have a greater selection of stores.
Like all new things everything is subject to change. Although I am hopeful that the coupons.com app will continue with these encouraging practices one never knows as these apps develop. But for now I am happy with the new policies and the new opportunities to make money off my purchases. Nowadays with the price of groceries drastically increasing any chance of receiving a rebates or discount is welcome. If you are interested in any grocery apps, I would appreciate if you use my links below. Happy shopping!
